The Only Gray · Pepper Place

Questions, answered.

Everything people ask before their first visit — booking, parking, what the consultation actually is, and what it costs. If yours isn't here, text and ask.

How do I book?

You text — there is no booking form and no calendar to fight with. New here, it's (323) 362-2973; already a client, it's (205) 705-3021. Send a message and someone answers.

Everyone says “complimentary consultation.” What is it?

A short visit with Gray before any work happens, and it costs nothing. He gets his hands in your hair to feel what is actually going on with it, you look at pictures together, and he tells you honestly whether your hair gets where you want it — and how. You leave knowing the plan, how many visits it takes, what to do at home, and what it costs.

So I come in twice?

Yes. The consultation comes first and the appointment is booked after it. That is deliberate — he will not guess at your hair over text, and he will not start something he has not seen.

What should I bring?

Your inspiration pictures. That is it.

What is it going to cost?

The ranges are on the Rates page, and the consultation is free. Every head of hair is different, so every price is too — what you pay depends on how much hair there is, how long it takes, and what has been done to it before. You will be told the number before anything begins, never after.

How far out is he booking?

Usually three weeks or more for an appointment — he is one person and there is one chair. Your consultation is different; that gets squeezed in as soon as it possibly can be. If nothing suits, ask to go on the cancellation list.

How long will I be in the chair?

A haircut is forty-five minutes. Colour takes longer, and how much longer depends entirely on your hair — you will be told exactly how long before it is booked.

Where is the studio, and where do I park?

Historic Pepper Place, 2829 2nd Ave S, Suite 60 — ground level, just beneath Odette. There are several free lots right on the same block, plus street parking close by.

What days is he open?

Monday 11 to 7, Tuesday 9 to 7, Wednesday 9 to 5. Closed Thursday through Sunday. One guest at a time in a private suite, and the day is built around whoever is in the chair.

How do I pay?

Cash, Venmo or card. Cash or Venmo are always appreciated.

What if I need to move or cancel?

Just text as early as you can. More than twenty-four hours' notice and there is nothing to sort out. Inside twenty-four hours, text anyway and someone will look after it.

Can I bring someone with me?

Text and ask before you come. There is one chair and one small room, so it depends on the day.

Can he fix a colour that went wrong?

Yes — correction is some of his favourite work. He will want to see it in person first.

Does he do weddings, proms or updos?

No. He keeps to colour and cutting.

Can I just get a blowout?

Not on its own — but a blow-out comes complimentary with every colour or cut.

Do you sell products?

He carries R+Co. Pick yours up at your visit, or during studio hours.

Do you sell gift cards?

No gift cards — but you are welcome to arrange and pay ahead for someone. New to Gray? They start with the consultation, same as everyone.

If the answer you need isn't here, text and ask. Someone answers — you will not be left wondering.
